Handmade in Nepal.
Cosi is based on the solid values of natural materials and ancient craftsmanship. A lineage of artisan hand weavers, a tradition handed down over generations creates something of great value. By designing a collection of luxury, handcrafted pieces Cosi aims to support the cultural heritage and skills of the high Himalayas. Cosi’s blankets and throws are handwoven and mostly hanspun from the finest Mongolian cashmere and yak wool.
Yaks roam wild at over 4,000 metres in the high Himalayas and the grasslands of higher Mongolia. Insulated against the winter freeze by their supremely warm undercoat, which is topped with a long-haired overcoat. Cosi yak is from Tibet and Mongolia both from sustainable sources. In May, when the snow has melted and mountain sunshine warms the harsh land, the yaks shed their winter coat, which is combed out and trimmed to produce a bundle of raw wool fibre. That fibre is then washed and sorted for quality and finally spun into yarn and then sent to Cosi’s workshop in the Kathmandu valley. The yarn is then hand dye, set up on pedal looms by hand, woven by hand, hand wash and hand finish. This produces products with soul and integrity.
Craftsmanship by nature is slow. Cosi weaves four pieces per weaver, per day. More time means more sustainability. Combining top-quality yarns, design and workmanship with social and environmental responsibility. When you understand the work that goes into every step of the process you appreciate the provenance of a hand-crafted piece created to last. Using traditional pedal looms, the spinning of each piece is reflective of the handmade nature. Craftsmanship and quality is what makes each piece luxuriously unique.
‘To value simplicity, requires less complication and more creativity, less attention to appearance and more attention to essence’.
